Once upon a time .........

Mike and Rick first started their writing partnership in 1964, turning out massive hits like "Ebenezer", "Alley Alley", "Little Jackie Monday" etc. and earning an aluminium disc for their ground-breaking album "This Is To Certify".   The Droopy Boops were created in Rick's back bedroom (or was it Mike's garden shed?) Wherever it was, it led to Mike and Rick mounting a search for talent to front the band.  One small advert in Womans Weekly resulted in a flood of very attractive knitting patterns and scores of letters from would be Droopys.   In the end, Mike and Rick narrowed the list down to fourteen lucky people, all of whom are featured here.  We would like to say they all lived happily ever after, but unlike most fairy tales this ending is dotted with tragedy. Jesse Faggott, Frankie Le Moan and Slime Regis all perished in the same evening, after fighting over a single order of egg and chips at the Cracked Saucer Caff on the A1, just south of Scotch Corner. Fittingly, The Cracked Saucer is the venue for the annual Droopyfest Re-union Concert that the surviving members attend as a mark of respect for their less fortunate associates..
